Individual therapy is available for older kids, ‘tweens, and teens. Depending on the age of the young person and their needs, we will incorporate talk therapy, sand tray therapy, and creative arts in a way that addresses their challenges and meets their individual therapy goals.
We may sit and talk, play therapeutic games, create art, or incorporate music, books, or other forms of media into our conversations about their lives and their goals. I believe in the importance of creating a relationship and focusing on strengths and solutions, not just on problems. It is normal for young people to feel ambivalent about coming to therapy at first, so it is important that they have a voice in determining what we work on — even if therapy wasn’t their idea.
When ‘tweens, and teens feel safe, connected, and respected, they are more open to working through their “stuff”. It is important to me that parents are a part of the process, so some family work may be incorporated to help the young person address challenges in communication and build skills in conflict resolution.
I am also available to help with making sure that your child has the appropriate supports in school. I can be an advocate for them in setting up appropriate accommodations and intervention plans. Having worked in public and private schools for over 12 years, I am well-versed in 504 and Special Education services and know the importance of having the right people and plans in place.
